Patients with Special Needs

At North Scottsdale Children’s Dentistry, we are fiercely committed to caring for your child’s oral health regardless of their special health care needs. The American Association of Pediatric Dentists defines persons with special health care needs as individuals who have a physical, developmental, mental, sensory, behavioral, cognitive, or emotional impairment or limiting condition that requires medical management, healthcare intervention and/or use of specialized services or programs.

If your child is not capable of self-care, it is crucial that a person or people in the caregiver position be active in the prevention of decay and other oral diseases.

At NSCD, we are specially trained to diagnose dental problems and treat special needs patients in our practice. Our reward is forming life-long friendships with them and their caregivers.

Our special needs patients learn individualized preventive oral health care practices which significantly reduces the risk of preventable dental/oral disease.

Children requiring more complex help with care may be referred to a dental specialist who is also trained to work with the special needs community. Rest assured that our team will always put the needs of your child first and they will receive the attention and gentle hand necessary for a positive and successful dental experience.
